For years now, the unofficial start to fall has been pegged to the return of the pumpkin spice latte, but Captain Morgan’s Jack-O-Blast Pumpkin Spice Rum has quickly come to synonymous with the season. Now that the leaves are once again falling, critics are welcoming Jack-O-Blast back to shelves and drink menus across the country, and the praise is thicker than a pumpkin spice milkshake.
Anna Millard at Refinery 29 called it “a natural fit” for the season, “since spice rums often contain nutmeg and cinnamon flavors” and suggested adding Jack-O-Blast to pumpkin spice lattes “to shake up the afternoon coffee game.”
Meanwhile, Sarah Weinberg at Delish said Jack-O-Blast is “flavorful enough to drink straight-up as a shot, with no chaser,” though she points out “you could add it to a cocktail — or maybe a PSL, gaaasp — if you're looking for something to sip on.” She also praised the bottle design, saying “you could just stare at the bottle” and worth “a front-and-center spot on your bar cart.”
At Simple Most, Kaitlyn Gates described the taste of Jack-O-Blast as “fresh pumpkin, cinnamon and other autumnal spices mixed with — of course — Caribbean rum. Think of it as a PSL with an extra kick.” She also praises the packaging, saying “the bottle itself is shaped like a jack-o-lantern that can be illuminated under a blacklight. A rum bottle that can double as a Halloween party decoration?! Count me in!”
Lizzy Rosenberg of Elite Daily calls Jack-O-Blast “truly everything I could ever want” when it comes to fall, and that it will soon make a “festively spooky appearance in all of your cocktails this upcoming fall season.” She also champions the notion of adding Jack-O-Blast to a pumpkin spice latte, an idea whose time, it seems, has finally come.
Bustle’s Lucia Peters and Callie Tansill-Suddath both singled out Jack-O-Blast to share with their readers as well. Peters said, anticipating it’s return back in August, that Jack-O-Blast is “stuff of which all my autumnal cocktail dreams are made” and that “Honestly, I would buy this drink just for the bottle.” Tansill-Suddath echoed her praise in September, saying it was a rum “you should add to your bar cart this season” and recommending the Apple Jack-O cocktail, which brings together “the two most prominent flavors of fall — apple and pumpkin — in a cocktail by mixing one part Captain Morgan Jack-O-Blast with four parts apple cider.”
